This Season’s Football at D’Mains

Season Roundup P7 Coach Jeroen Snitjer

The P7’s have a lot to be really really proud of. They have shown that with a fantastic collective spirit anything can be achieved. Brand new strips were worn for the season and were even complimented on by opposing coaches.

Our pre match rallying cry will stay with us for a long long time: a full minute silence followed by an almighty roar. That’s how they wanted to do it, that is what made them feel ‘powerful’, or so they said.

A 100% record in Saturday games all season and a marvellous Inspectors Cup run, narrowly missing the final. It has been a brilliant adventure and as coaches we hope that all the kids who have been involved have created long lasting memories.

Season Round-up – P5 Football  from coach, Andrew Frame.

The P5 Football team recently concluded the season with a fun night out at Tony Macaroni’s. The night included presentation of our Player of the Year award to Liam Campbell (P5B). This is a particularly well appreciated award, as it is voted for by the players themselves. Congratulations Liam!

The team had an excellent season overall. We took part in 24 matches, with a fantastic record of 17 wins, 2 draws and only 5 defeats. Two of those defeats came in the School Board Cup group stage, which took place in early May. The team delivered a terrific performance in this tournament as we competed against older (P6) children from other schools and clearly held our own, including a great win (6-2) against Oxgangs PS. Notably, we lost narrowly (0-2) to ESM (Stewart’s Melville), a team who competed in the final stages of the East of Scotland Junior Sevens in March and are recognised as one of the top three P6 teams in Edinburgh.

We made some new friends in late May as we took part in a fun, friendly mini-tournament at the nearby home of Civil Service Strollers 2007s, who made us very welcome on a sunny evening.

We concluded the season’s matches with our participation in the Edinburgh Schools’ P5 Festival at Wardie, winning 3 of our 4 matches on the day!

A huge thank you and well done to all of the 17 players who represented the team throughout the season. We scored a massive 125 goals in our 24 matches. A particular mention must go to our top scorer Aidan Miller (P5A) , who contributed an amazing 59 goals in total. Well done Aidan! Lionel Messi only managed 54 this season!

Preparations are already underway for next season. One of our coaches, David, has recently attended an SFA coaching course and we feel sure that the team will see the benefits of this in the forthcoming period.  We are working to raise funds to help pay for our training sessions and hopefully some new kit and training equipment. We are looking forward to challenging for the School Board Cup again next season and have plans to enter the National Junior Soccer Sevens competition – watch out for news on that one!

A big thanks to the parents of our players for washing the strips, getting the children to the venues on time and for supporting the team throughout the season and thanks to my fellow coaches, David and Richie for giving up their time to organise, train and motivate the team. It’s been fun!

We look forward to seeing you all back for P6 training on 30th August and we encourage anyone who wants to see a good game of football to come and support us in our matches next season!
