Groupcall

In common with many Edinburgh schools. we have changed our parent mail system to Groupcall; a system that works with our SEEMIS database system. It will provide parents with the same emails as previously with information from the school and has the ability to be expanded in future to improve communication and also link to a parent consultation booking system. We are hoping for a 100% sign up to the new system. If you have not done so already please return the form with your email information to the office.

Use of Instagram

We have had a number of incidents recently involving inappropriate and irresponsible use of Instagram accounts in the primary sevens.  I would like to remind parents to keep an open dialogue with their children about how to keep themselves out of trouble when using social media.  This is a very important life lesson for them.  If your child is the subject of abuse or misuse, this should be reported to the police (CEOP)  .

We reinforce regularly at school how to stay safe and act appropriately online.  Please see the parents’ booklet on the website under policies for further information.  Thank you for your support with keeping everyone safe online.

Out of School Care Report

The City of Edinburgh Council is committed to supporting the development of childcare services including breakfast clubs, afterschool clubs and holiday provision across the Authority.  As a requirement of the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014, the Council also have a duty to consult, plan and publish these plans in relation to out of school care provision in the city.

Following extensive consultation, the report attached has been compiled for the attention of parents/carers, providers, schools and those with an interest in out of school care. For your information, please also find attached a copy of the summary report

Welcome back to all our families

It was lovely to see all the children returning safe and happy to school last week .  Our new primary one classes all settled in very easily .

New Arrival

Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Armstrong on the safe arrival of their daughter, Marnie during the summer holidays.

New Staff

We would like to welcome a number of new staff in school this session. Miss Virginia Clydesdale has joined us in primary 5, Mr Doyle is teaching primary 4, Miss Benson primary 3, and Mrs Bryant is sharing teaching primary 2 and helping out in a number of other classes.

Glee Success

Davidson’s Mains Primary School Choir won the Edinburgh Schools Glee competition held in the Assembly Rooms on Thursday 26th May.  The 33 strong choir made up of primaries six and seven pupils won their heat a month previously and went on to take the glitzy 3 foot high trophy against steep competition from 5 other school finalists.

The children sang Love Runs Out by 1 Republic and Uptown Funk by Mark Ronson with superb timing and poise.  They were described as ‘a well-oiled machine’ by the judges in the heats, showing individual flair and still singing together as a unified choir.   Grace Reid the solist, sang to what was described as ‘professional standard- rapping along to Uptown Funk. The children (and their parents)  were overwhelmed with their success and very excited. Their choir leader, class teacher, Helen Bassett, was delighted with their success, especially as most of the sixes and sevens were at residential camp last week and rehearsal time was tight.

Feedback from the organisers to …

Many congratulations to you and the Davidson Mains choir for becoming our 2016 Edinburgh Primary School Show Choir Champions!

What a fantastic night – I think it may be some time before everyone comes back down to earth again.  I can imagine there wasn’t much sleep had last night J

We thought that all of the choirs performed even better in the final than they did in the heats and the Davidson Mains choir really stepped things up last night – you are well deserved winners!  I wasn’t there when the scores were added up and didn’t hear the judges’ decision so I couldn’t wait to hear the results. I was delighted when Ali opened the envelope and announced that the winners were Davidson’s Mains.  The choir are real credit to you and the school.  Not only did they bring all the elements of Glee together, singing, dancing and storytelling, they were also very supportive of all the other choirs and were great audience members.

Many congratulations once again from everyone at Frisson

Lloyds Bank Volunteers

Last week we were lucky to have a team of around 20 workers from Lloyds Bank. They accomplished a lot including shifting about 1/2 a ton of wood, painting railings (more about that soon), digging over patches of the meadow and cutting back a seriously overgrown ivy plant. Thank you.
